Casco Bay Ferry Routes

By Carol Bass (1948–2024)

Location: Yarmouth High School (public viewing by appointment)

Casco Bay Ferry Routes by Carol Bass is one of three paintings in a show curated by writer and art critic Edgar Allen Beem for the new lobby at the Yarmouth Performing Arts Center. Edgar called the show “The Mother of All Art” Show because each of the artists, Carol Bass, Grace DeGenarro, and Margaret Lawrence, had children in high school at the time. The paintings were purchased and donated to the high school by Yarmouth Arts.

About the Artist: Carol Bass, a beloved Maine painter, sculptor, and author, passed away in 2024. She was known for her large, brilliantly colored abstract paintings, multiple talents, and indomitable spirit.

Carol said of her work: “To paint is to live, to connect with wonder, love, and laughter. I can dance with miracles. I can nurture my heart.  I can share pure joy. The world is made of magic. Like the beetles and the hawks, we are all making paths through the magic. The abundance and entanglements of energy, the way we are all connected, that’s what and why I paint.”
