CLOAKED FIGURE
Roy Patterson, 2007
Granite
Main Street bridge and Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth. Dedicated in May 2021.
The sculpture was a gift to Yarmouth Arts Alliance from Ann Waldron. Over many years she collected art reflecting features of Maine or artists in Maine. She appreciated and enjoyed the work of Roy Patterson while living on Mt. Dessert Island.
About the artist: Roy Patterson of Gray has exhibited his sculpture in galleries throughout the state of Maine. He draws inspiration from the human figure and the primal presence of stone. His sculptures contain elements of both realism and abstraction. While his primary focus has been on stone carving, other materials that he works with include bronze, wood, cast concrete and plaster. Roy has created several public art installations, working in collaboration with project coordinators and a landscape architect. He has participated in Stone Sculpture Symposiums in Maine and Florida and has numerous works in private collections.
Roy is the only Maine sculptor who has the distinction of being invited twice to participate in two Schoodic International Sculpture Symposiums. His work is in numerous private collections in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, and Canada. Visit his website at www.roypattersonsculpture.com
“Art is the antithesis of the destructive forces that cause so much suffering in this world. Artists, art collectors, and arts organizations share the responsibility to support and nourish creative energy.” Roy Patterson, SculptorExplore
