Charlotte Agell

Sometimes, I think that Maine is the hero of every book I write and illustrate, at least in some way. As an expat kid, growing up in Sweden, Canada, and Hong Kong, I felt a lot of LONGING as opposed to BELONGING.

Something about Maine drew me, before I even arrived here. (When I was a kid, I made up a story about a child in Halibut, Maine who mostly stood and faced the wild sea. This was before I landed here as a 17-year-old.)

Then I drew it.

And it drew me.

It was as if my future home had called me home.

I love my longtime adopted state. Showing these two small pieces alongside the work of other local Maine artists is a great joy, and continues the conversation.
