Shared Pathways

  • Merrill Memorial Library 215 Main Street Yarmouth, Maine, 04096 United States (map)

Shared Pathways, now hanging in the Library Gallery, is an ecological memorial that renders the unseen loss of bird-window strikes visible. While bird-window strikes often appear as isolated accidents, together they represent a much larger environmental problem. This memorial helps us recognize the ways our built environments affect the wildlife we share our communities with.

Composed of 35 ceramic birds hand-sculpted by artist Caitlin Perrigo, the installation reflects on lives already lost while asking us to consider how we collectively can prevent future loss. The exhibit is in conjunction with the recently installed bird-safe vinyl window covering in the Library entryway, created by Birds By Design.
