Yarmouth Arts is a non-profit organization made up of local citizens committed to encouraging arts and cultural activities within the community of Yarmouth.
Our mission is to enhance the cultural life of our community by increasing awareness of existing cultural opportunities; promoting greater participation in the arts and cultural activities for all ages and interests; and facilitating and supporting cultural events and activities in Yarmouth.
As a local arts organization, we seek to support our creative community by connecting artists with audiences of all kinds. We encourage creativity in its broadest sense and believe that sharing arts and cultural experiences brings us together.
Since our founding in 2000, we have begun a number of ongoing arts-related programs including:
- The Yarmouth Arts & Cultural Directory, a listing of the individuals, organizations, and arts and cultural resources in our community, created in 2002 with help from the Maine Arts Commission. This database is now part of our website and is currently being updated
- Monthly “Evening with the Artist” Series. Presentations by local artists, writers, designers and others who share their stories with the public
- Art in Public Spaces, an ongoing initiative to bring permanent works of art to Yarmouth’s schools, municipal buildings and other public spaces
- Grants Program, supporting individuals and organizations involved in the arts. Two to three grants are given out annually to qualified local artists
- Sponsorship of productions, performances and shows that take place in Yarmouth
- Newsletter, keeping our community up to date with arts and culture in Yarmouth
- Website, serving as an online directory and information source for upcoming arts events
- Annual Fundraising Auction, a celebration of the arts to support the above activities and contribute seed money for public art projects
Our goal is to have as many people as possible linked into a wide circle of participation, appreciation and support of the arts. Your ideas, energy, support and feedback are welcome.
